I have a working W2k8 Server R2 that i am using as my media server among other things. I also want to watch DVD's (not ripped DVD's - I already have that working) in Media Player.

I installed the Advanced Pack but Media Player still says it needs a Codec.

Thoughts?

I haven't tested 2008 R2 yet, but there are a number of likely issues.
Media Player is probably running in 64bit mode, so you may need to use my Codec Pack x64 Add-on from here http://www.cole2k.net/codec-pack-x64-addon.html
You will also have to change the ffdshow settings to enable MPEG2 decoding and check the box to enable DVD decoding.
If Hyper-V is enabled high performance graphics drivers are often disabled.
