As for m4p files with WMP, if you right click on the file and select "Open With" and then select "Choose Program" you will be shown a list of programs to open it, scroll down and select "Windows Media Player" and also check the box marked "Always use this program to open these files".

WMP may give you a warning about the file type and ask if you want to continue, select "Yes" and tick the box marked "Do not show me this warning again".

I've had a look at your problem a little more, ffdshow's support for AAC is incomplete, it works fine for AAC-HE but doesnt like normal 2 channel AAC much, I have made a patch that will fix it, you can download it here.[/url]

m4p files are often protected (iTunes etc.), they will often refuse to play if the protection doesn't allow it.

Quick edit, according to this page http://all-streaming-media.com/streaming-media-faq/faq-playing-DRM-... if you have the license keys VLC Player will play them.

One cause may be that you have thumbnails enabled in the folder the video is located or the preview pane is on.

Another problem could be the graphics mode used by ffdshow, so you may want to try disabling YV12 as shown here http://forums.cole2k.net/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=77&start=21

If that doesn't solve it then consider using a different player.
