| I have just recently installed the Codec Pack V7.1.0.-Standard.
Before installing it, I was unable to play some mpg files (others worked fine). Real Player announced I needed a codec for these files, as they are mpeg-2.
Since I installed the codec pack, I can now play the files, in both Real player and in Windows Media Player 11. In both cases, I the video now plays, but there is no sound at all. Is there a setting somewhere which should be changed?
I have windows XP, SP2.
Windows Media Player 11.
Real Player 11.
Quick time 7.4.5. (this does not play it at all)
Thanks for any help

| Hi, it's an easy problem to fix.
You can either download and run the registry patch attached to this post, or follow the instructions below:
Click "Start", go to "Programs", followed by "cole2k Media - Codec Pack", then click "AC3Filter Configuration".
When you see the dialogue appear select the top tab marked "System" and tick the following boxes: AC3, DTS, MPEG Audio, DVD.
Click "OK" to apply the settings.
Attachments ---------------- ac3filter_formats_default.reg (4KB - 0 downloads)

| All the boxes mentioned were already ticked. Anyhow, I clicked "apply", for safety. There is still no sound.
There are many other boxes referring to sound. Should some of those be ticked? For example, default audio renderer: nothing is ticked. Force sound card to reinit ... is not ticked.
Thanks

| The settings won't work correctly until you close and re-open media player.
The default settings are normally fine.
Have a look at the SPDIF tab at the top and see if the "Use SPDIF" box is checked or unchecked, it should be unchecked.

| It was indeed unchecked.
What is the next step? Is there a next step?
Thanks for any assistance

| Hi, there are still a few things you can do.
Try the following:
Click "Start", go to "Programs", followed by "Cole2k Media - Codec Pack", then click "ffdshow Audio".
In the right hand side you should see a list of formats and a decoder collumn, where it says "MP1, MP2" click where it says disabled next to it and select "libmad" from the little list.

| I think it's safe to say those files are not standard, you'll have to find out what is different from normal mpeg-2 files.
There is a tool called GSpot that allows you to see what codec's have been used and the encoding method for a file, you can download it here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/GSpot270a.zip

| It says Codec MPEG2, Name MPEG-2, codec not installed.
Proposed codec and tests:unable to render video.
Does that mean it is hopeless?!?
Thanks for your assistance

| The last thing you could try is Media Player Classic, it's like the old Windows Media Player, but has a lot of enhancements and is good for playing broken files.
You can download it here http://dfn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/guliverkli/mpc2kxp6490.zi...
