Guys/Gals,

I have a story to tell, but I need some help. Here goes...

I have recently purchased a commercial PVR unit, based on the MythTv concept (http://www.d1.com.au). It records files in the '.NUV' format. I wanted to try to "burn" a program to DVD from my PVR. Trouble is, no software I knew of, uses the .NUV format as input (I am using the Windows XP platform).

After searching the web, I found a technical forum that suggested I try VideReDo. I downloaded a trial copy from http://www.VideoReDo.com and it works fine! I can convert .NUV to .VOB files without any problems. (I have since purchased a full licence)

This is where the REAL problem starts !!!!

I produced a sample .VOB file from my .NUV source. It has an AC3 2 audio channel stream embedded within.

I find that I CAN play this .VOB file directly with Cyberlink PowerDVD (http://www.gocyberlink.com/multi/products/main_1_ENU.html)

but I CANNOT play this file with Nero Showtime V2 - there is NO AUDIO!! In fact the software produces a pop-up which tells me that a DVD Plug-in is required. It says "due to Copyright restrictions.Dolby Digital 2 channel .etc.etc." It then goes on to ask me to purchase Nero 6. I have Nero OEM Version 6.6.0.16.

If I attempt to produce a DVD using Nero Vision Express, the result is exactly the same as the output from Nero Showtime V2. No audio and stupid pop-up.

So, being a smart cookie, I found the Cole2k Media Nero Audio Plugin Pack 1.52. I thought HURRAH ! ) this will fix the problem.

I duly installed same, rebooted my computer and tried to use Nero Showtime. NO CHANGE. I still get the bloody Dolby plugin pop-up! :-0

Any HELP PLEASE !!!??? Must I succumb and buy a Nero Dolby plugin?

Hi, Nice to see a MythTV user posting.

The current plugins in the pack are for decoding for use with audio cd's in Nero Burning ROM and probably won't load in anything else.

It sounds to me like the copyright tag has been applied to the AC3 stream, if thats the case there are ways around it, you can use any DVD ripper that allows a .vob file input or pretty much any if it has been burned to disc.

Another option (if the audio is not protected) is to use BeSweet to convert the audio to wav and load it seperately from the video.

Hope that helps.

Cole,

I am a complete novice here. Is it clear that the AC3 plugin from yourself is not working? I was hoping I did something wrong (and it was failing for that reason).

(BTW the MythTV box records onto hard disc and has no facility to burn or copy onto its DVD drive. I have to copy the .NUV file to another PC).

I wanted to avoid the process of seprating the .VOB stream (or .NUV stream before it) in to video and audio streams. Any other clues?

Begging ....

The AC3 plugin does currently work, but was only compiled for burning to audio CD, so going further than that is a little patchy.

I can understand that you don't wish to process the files any further than you have to, I'm all for purity, simplicity and quality myself, but, I think that the only way around your situation is either some loss-less processing or to buy the plugin.
