The codec packs have recently been updated to version 7.4.
ffdshow has been updated, along with some default settings.

A new feature in the advanced pack is the ability to import settings from a registry file.
The pack will import any registry information from a file called CPASettings.reg provided it is in the same directory as the codec packs installer.
During normal installation users will be prompted to add the settings to the registry, but during silent installation users will not see a prompt.

Thanks fore making Cole2k

It seems there is a problem with 7.4. After installing the new codec pack, my films did not work no more. The media players could show a picture but not run the movies. I have Win XP Pro with SP3.

After the reinstall of 7.3 is everything back to normal again

Hi Cole, thank you for your reply.
It was XVID, LameMP3, and AC3. I did marked the XVID option during install.

The file type was the plain AVI container

Hi,
Re-install the pack, it sounds like you uninstalled the previous one without restarting before installing the new one.

Hi,
No I'm sorry to report that this don't seem to be the case. I have now tried ones again and the same problem appearing. This goes for DivX as well but MPG formatted files plays just fine.

Well, my system is relatively new only 14 days old. I don't know if is has something to do with sp1 nor sp2 never have been installed, course I slipstreemed sp3 directly in the XP install CD. However it's completly updated with both system drivers and from MS Update. I prefer to use Windows Media Player 6.4 but the avi formatted movies did not work within Media Player 11 as well which they do with 7.3

I couldn't replicate the problem you're having.
The main difference between 7.3 and 7.4 was ffdshow.
I've compiled version 7.5 which you can give a try to see if it's better for you http://cole2k.net/files/cole2k.media.-.codec.pack.v7.5.0.-advanced-...
It has a newer version of ffdshow.

Hi Cole

I am pleased to confirm that you have solved the problem by making 7.5. It seems that it was an incompatible version of ffdshow within 7.4 which created the problem in my system. Thank you so much for your time and effords

Sincerely
Hans Hansen
