| Disclaimer: This guide refers to how to backup/convert what may or may not be a copy protected DVD produced by photographer.
This guide assumes that you have intellectual copyright and/or any associated copyright for your wedding DVD.
I take no responsibility for the use of this guide in regard to any other material.
Software required:
Cole2k Media - Codec Pack (Advanced)
Cole2k Media - DVD Rip Pack
Cole2k Media - Video Dub Pack
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1:
Insert your "Wedding DVD"
Open DVD Decrypter (Can be found in: Start/Programs/Cole2k Media - DVD Rip Pack)
Click "Mode" in the top list of options and select "IFO I"
Click "Tools" in the top list of options and select "Settings",
then from the top tab of the dialogue that appears select "IFO Mode",
make sure "Select Main Movie PGC" is ticked,
make sure "File Splitting" is set to "None",
then click "OK".
In the main window you will see a drop down list that allows you to select the "Source",
you should see/or select your DVD drive containing your "wedding DVD" in this list.
If your drive was selected correctly you should see a list of chapters shown in the "Input" window,
the main files should also already be highlighted.
Now select a destination folder, if not already set (Bare in mind that you may need as much as 8.5GB of disk space).
Lastly click the green arrow to begin processing the disc.
Step 1 is complete after DVD Decrypter has finished processing the disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2:
Open VirtualDubMod 1.4.13.2V2 (Can be found in: Start/Programs/Cole2k Media - Video Dub Pack)
You may see 2 dialogues appear asking you to agree to the VirtualDub license and also warning that some codecs may not be compatible.
Click "File" in the top list of options and select "Open video file",
browse to the location that you selected as DVD Decrypter's destination folder (eg. "C:\WEDDING\VIDEO_TS"),
select the .VOB file in the folder and click "Open".
You should now see a window appear with clip, resize and also audio options,
set "Video aspect" to "Free".
Now click "Preview" and move the pointer to a point during the video where you can see any black lines around the actual video clearly,
apply clipping to cut out any black area around the video,
then resize the video according to the specification you require eg:
4:3 Standard format = 640 width + 480 height
16:9 Widescreen format = 640 width + 352 height
2.35:1 Letterbox Widescreen format = 640 width + 272 height
Click "Preview" once again to close the preview window.
Next, set "Audio 1" to use the AC3 stream of your choice from the drop down list (eg. "AC3 Track 0x80 etc.", 0x80 is the ID for English Audio),
leave "Keep AC3" selected and click "OK" at the bottom of the window.
VirtualDubMod will now extract the AC3 audio to the same folder as the .VOB file and also save some information about the file,
once complete the window will exit and go back to VirtualDubMod's main window.
Click "Video" in the top list of options and select "Compression",
in the window that appears select "DivX 6.1 Codec" or similar/newer and click configure,
in the window that appears click the little calculator button and set the bit rate you wish to use
(Knowing the length of the video and size of the audio file are an advantage).
Click "Accept" to accept the bit rate in the calculator and then click "OK" in the DivX configuration window.
Click "AVI" in the top list of options, then move across to "Audio" and select "AC3 Audio",
browse to the location that you selected as DVD Decrypter's destination folder (eg. "C:\WEDDING\VIDEO_TS"),
select the AC3 file and click "Open" (A message will show to tell you how many channels etc. the file has).
Click "AVI" in the top list of options and select "Save as AVI" and select a location and name for the file you wish to output, click "Save".
You should now see VirtualDubMod processing the file, once complete you will have an AVI file of your "Wedding" with DivX Video and AC3 Audio.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
Using a later version of "VirtualDubMod" is not recommended due to some features being removed (The latest version is not always the greatest).
Using a normal version of "VirtualDub" is not recommended due to incompatibility with .VOB files.
If you attempt 2-Pass encoding you will have to re-select the AC3 file on each pass due to a memory bug in VirtualDubMod.
If you found this guide useful show some support.
