Subject: No sound in Vista Ultimate

Hi,

I have recently build my new PC with Vista Ultimate 64bits and I have installed the latest 7.5 Advanced pack.

All my videos plays fine but no sound. I have followed a number of suggestions on this forum but still no sound. Note, sound in general works, I can play MP3 files without problems, it's just movies.

My current setup:

Phenom II 720
4gb RAM
Vista Ultimate 64
SPDIF out to AV amp.

Suggestions tried:

FFShow Audio Configuration:
MP1, MP2 - libmad
AC3 - libavcodec (SPDIF option not available)
DTS - libavcodex (SPDIF option not available)

AC3Filter Configuration:
Output format - As IS
Rate - AS IS
Format PCM 16bits
Use SPDIF - Checked

Under System:
Use AC3Filter for - all checked except PCM

Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

Kind regards - Jay

Hi,
In AC3Filters System tab under "Use AC3Filter for:" unselect SPDIF (It's looping).

Thanks for the suggestion. I have unchecked the option as suggested and still no sound (even rebooted the machine). I have forgot to mention (sorry!) that the Vista has been patched with the Media pack (Fiji), not sure whether that has any impact to the codecs.

Kind regards - Jay

Just want to update anyone reading this.

After many re-install of Vista 64 and 32 bits OS, using different sequences of software installation, I have finally narrow down to the fault of my additional sound card (X-Mystique). As soon as I have plugged into my onboard SPDIF and changed the necessary settings in Sound, all working fine.

Thank you for the help so far though.

Thanks - Jay

It's good to hear you found the problem.
I had an HDA Digital X Mystique 7.1 Gold card myself a few years ago and could never get it to work properly in Vista.
For anyone else who may be having a similar problem, there are a number of clones of the HDA Digital X Mystique 7.1 Gold, they can be identified by the chipset CMI8768+.
